Next Week's Debate

Hi Class!

Now that we've completed our first class debate and you have received your scores, you should have a better idea of what you can work on to improve your debate skills. Remember that the main focus for our next class debate is on speaking skills. While you all impressed me during our debate on animal testing, some people relied too much on note cards. Let's make sure to try and memorize more of our contentions so we can deliver them with more confidence!

Good luck and see you all on Tuesday!

Our New Class Blog!

Hi Class!

Welcome to our new class blog! After you read this post, make sure to click the "Follow" button at the top of the page. By becoming a "follower", you will automatically be updated when there is a new post on our class blog.

Our first three classes together have been wonderful. I have witnessed each one of you opening up and expressing your ideas. Now that we have set a foundation for our class and understand how important it is to speak in an educated and respectful manner, we will begin applying our skills into our first debate!

Our first debate topic will be on the issue of animal testing. There are two main reasons why people experiment on animals:
1) SCIENTIFIC reasons - People experiment on animals to find out more about the animals themselves.
2) MEDICAL reasons - People experiment on animals in order to test substances and procedures to see if they are harmful.

Our first class debate will be about whether we should experiment on animals for scientific and medical purposes.

Homework
- With parental supervision, research the topic of experimenting/testing on animals. Print at least THREE articles and bring them to class on Tuesday. Be prepared to discuss this topic, as we will be choosing debate teams during our next class!

If you have any questions or comments, you can leave them in the form of a comment to this blog. Just scroll down to the end of this post and click "comment".

See you on Tuesday!

Ms. Kim
